Privacy Policy

We collect certain data via our website to fulfill orders, provide content, and more.  You may also have seen some affiliate links on our site. We want to make sure you understand what that means for us, for you, for the things we recommend or don’t recommend, and more.  We also want to make sure you understand that, by using our website, you agree to our policies as described here.  This Privacy Policy is effective as of April 1, 2021.

Personal Data

When you visit our site, we may collect certain data from you. This is primarily data that you enter in; we do not take personally identifying information without your permission.  This information may include, but isn’t necessarily limited to, your name, email, phone number, mailing address, records of products purchased, and geolocation data.  (Note the latter may be collected automatically depending on your browser settings.)   When you enter data, we will use it to communicate with you about your orders and provide services. We may also use it to contact you about opportunities to work with us and other relevant news and information, but only if you’ve opted into our newsletter. What we do NOT do is sell your information to third parties. As attorneys, our clients trust us with very private and highly confidential information; even though we’re not your attorneys, we wouldn’t betray that trust by giving away or selling your information.

That doesn’t mean that data doesn’t go anywhere; we do need to send personal data for some functions, such as completing orders.  For example, when you place an order or update your billing information, your billing information will be sent to and processed via our credit card processor.  We may engage other service providers to complete your orders and provide services on our behalf, and they are not authorized to disclose or use it for any other purpose.

Finally, while we make efforts to maintain the security of your data, this is a friendly reminder that nothing is 100% bulletproof.

Usage Data

There may be other data that we collect that helps our website function better for you and for the future, and that data may include the IP address from which you’re accessing our website; browser type; browser version; pages you visit; time and date of your visit; time spent on various pages; device identifiers; operating system; device types; and other diagnostic data, including data your device may send.  We protect usage data to the same extent as personal data.

Cookies

As you may know by now, a cookie isn’t just a delicious treat. It’s also a small bit of information that a website, including ours, sends to your device, and stores there so we can recognize your device or your account when you come back. Cookies and other similar tools allow us to provide a better web experience for you, such as remembering what you had in your shopping cart, making it quicker for you to sign in, and more. You always have the option to disable or block cookies in your browser, or use privacy software to block cookies, and you’ll still have a great web experience with us – the choice is always yours.  Just know that our website, like most all other websites, sends cookies automatically unless you disable them.

Analytics

We may use third-party service providers to monitor and analyze the use of our Service.  Those include the following:

Google Analytics is a service from Google that tracks and reports website traffic. Google uses the data collected to track and monitor the use of our website. This data is shared with other Google services. Google may use the collected data to contextualize and personalize the ads of its own advertising network. You can opt-out of having your activity available to Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. The add-on prevents the Google Analytics JavaScript (ga.js, analytics.js and dc.js) from sharing information with Google Analytics about visits activity.  For more information on Google’s privacy practices, please visit the Google Privacy & Terms web page.

MailChimp is a service from The Rocket Science Group LLC that allows us to email, and in some cases snail-mail, marketing or other information that we think you’ll find interesting or helpful. You may opt-out of receiving any, or all, of these communications using the unsubscribe link in any email we send, or by emailing us at info@skepsistech.com.  For more information on Mailchimp’s privacy practices, please visit the MailChimp Privacy page, and the MailChimp Security page.

Other Data Disclosures

There are a few other instances where we may share your data.  First, we may share your data in connection with a merger or acquisition of our company.  Second, we will disclose data if required to do so by law or order.  Other disclosures may include protecting or defending the firm’s rights or interests; investigating wrongdoing arising out of or related to our firm or our website; and protecting you, us, or the public.

Our site may contain links to other websites.  We have no control over what data those sites collect and what they do with it.

Your Rights To Request Information, Deletion, and More

If you would like to request a copy of data that we have collected about you, you may do so by emailing info@skepsislegal.com.  You may also contact us at that email address to ask us to delete your data, and to request that we do not sell your data (which we do not).  Finally, if you’re a California resident, you may email us at info@skepsislegal.com up to once each calendar year to request the types of information we shared with third parties in the prior calendar year for direct marketing purposes, and the identities of those third parties.

We typically respond to requests within 30 days, and only if we are able to verify with reasonable confidence that the request is really from you.  The fact that a request came from your email address may provide adequate verification, but not in all circumstances.

Our site is not intended for use by minors, nor is it intended as a place for users to post their own content.  But as lawyers we’re nothing if not thorough, so if you are a minor and a California resident, we want you to know that you have the right to email us at info@skepsislegal.com to request removal of any content you have posted.  Although we’ll do everything we reasonably can to comply with your request, that does not ensure complete or comprehensive removal of the content or information posted on our site.

Do Not Track

Our website does not respond to Do Not Track signals.  But, other websites might.  Most browsers have a Do Not Track feature that allows you to inform websites that you don’t want to be tracked, which you can enable or disable in the preferences or settings page of your web browser.

Changes and Updates

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time.  We’ll notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.  We recommend you review our Privacy Policy from time to time for changes.  When we do change this policy, we’ll let you know via email or a prominent notice on our site.
